For your convenience, we
have provided the answers to the Frequently Asked Questions about Vieques, below.
How Do I Get to
Vieques Island?
Our island is situated eight
miles off the Eastern coast of Puerto Rico
and can be reached by air as well as by ferry from Fajardo.

Vieques Air Link (VAL)departs from Isla Grande
Airport, a small airport near Old San Juan, just ten minutes from
International Airport. The round-trip price is approximately $135 and they
take approximately 20 minutes to Vieques. VAL has flights to Vieques
between the hours of 6:15 AM – 5:15PM. VAL has flights from Vieques
between the hours of 7:30 AM – 5:45 PM. Call for reservations and flight
updates or additional information at 787-741-833. Also you can flight from
Luis Muñoz Marin Int’l Airport (SJU) with the following Airlines: VAL
(787-741-8331) Cape Air (800-352-0714) Seaborne Airlines (877-772-1005)
Charter flights are available from Isla Grande Airport with VAL, Air
America (787-276-5669) and Tropical Air 787-675-0000).
The ferry leaves Fajardo for Vieques, Monday through Sunday at
9:30am, 1:00pm and 4:30pm and 8:00pm. The fare is $2. The taxi fare from
the San Juan area to Fajardo is approximately $90. The trip takes
approximately 1 hour. The return times for the ferry are 6:30am, 11:00am,
3:00pm and 6:00pm Monday thru Sunday. The cargo ferry is for local cargo
only and is impossible to get your car on.
If they do take your reservation they are most likely to give it to
a local merchant at the last minute. We recommend flying…it is much
faster!
Renting a car is
a must, as so many of our greatest beaches are inaccessible without one.
We highly recommend rent a car but you also have the choice of renting a
scooter or mountain bicycle or hiring your own personal driver who often
work as “públicos” dirver. There are several car rental companies on
Vieques. The prices
What is
there to do in Vieques?
Vieques Island is not commercially developed. There are still plenty of
wide-open spaces, country roads and rolling hills. The language spoken
most often is Spanish but English is widely spoken. The American dollar is
the standard. Most credit cards are accepted in the majority of
businesses. The
beaches are amazing, plentiful and empty for the most part. There are no
movie theaters, shopping malls or traffic lights. There are a few art
galleries, small stores and some local craftsmen. There is great
snorkeling and scuba diving and the world's most brightest bioluminescent
bay. We would be happy to help you make arrangements to participate in
these activities, if you wish. We have no television but we do have a good
hard-cover library and perfect weather.
What there "is not to do" here is also Vieques'
best feature. Vieques Island gets well seasoned travelers who have been
many places and find this the place where they always want to return. They
read, walk, sleep, swim, eat and make new friends.
